Season-Best 288 Ends Fall on High Note for Golf

Team finishes James S. Litz Memorial second

FINAL RESULTS

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -
They definitely earned their Halloween candy. The University of New Orleans shot the lowest round Tuesday at the Republic Golf Club (288), improving by three strokes and placing second overall in the two-day tournament hosted by the University of the Incarnate Word. The Privateers, led by brothers Ulisses de Toledo Junior and Homero de Toledo, finished just nine strokes behind team champion Texas State University. The Toledo brothers ended the fall tied for second after day two scores of 71 (E) and 69 (-2), respectively. Homero's two-under tied for the best round throughout the tourney.

The second place finish is the highest since New Orleans nearly took the 2010 Sun Belt Championship, eventually concluding the season as runner ups.

DAY ONE
Beginning the tournament with a 299 - good for t-fifth - the Privateers shot a 291 to end day one with a 590, third behind Texas State and host UIW. All five for UNO were close as Max Hellstrom and Jackson Smith shot 74's to begin Monday, de Toledo Junior followed at 75, Brady Bennett scored a 76 and de Toledo rounded out at 77.

The club then chipped away with an eight stroke improvement in round two, led by a pair of 70's for the de Toledo brothers. The one-under-par was a seven stroke differential for de Toledo, tied for the second best improvement by all individuals. Smith matches his round one total of 74 and Hellstrom shot a 77.

The day one leader was Bobcats' Logan Lockwood, who finished three-under. Lockwood won the individual title Tuesday after a 74, finishing three strokes ahead of the de Toledo brothers.

DAY TWO
New Orleans was dominant Tuesday with a 288, the leaders by four strokes, to surpass Southland Conference foe UIW and move into second place. The 288 was just four-over with de Toledo shooting two-under, de Toledo Junior and Smith scoring 71's (E) and Hellstrom matching his No. 2 total of 77. Bennett improved by two for a 78 in the final round of the fall.
