Volleyball Faces Crucial Test On The Road At McNeese

Privateers still have postseason possibilities with four games remaining

New Orleans- It's I-10 West once again for the University of New Orleans volleyball team.  This time the destination is not Texas, but Lake Charles, Louisiana where the Privateers will face McNeese, Thursday, November 2 at 7 p. m.

New Orleans (10-14,4-8 Southland) is currently in tenth place in league standings with four games remaining.  The top eight teams qualify for the Southland Conference Tournament in Corpus Christi, Texas, November 17-19.  A win over McNeese, a club in front of the Privateers in the standings, is crucial.

"There's been a couple of upsets along the way but it's hard to predict," said head coach Millicent Van Norden.  "The safest thing would be to just win all four of our games and see how things turn out."

New Orleans will attempt to run their winning streak to two-in-a-row after taking a four-set victory over Lamar 3-1 (25-23, 18-25, 25-22, 25-14) last week.  Junior Kaitlyn Grice, the Southland's leader in hitting percentage at .357, paced the Privateers with 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .500 for the match to go along with her 8 blocks. Grice is third in the league in blocks averaging 1.20 Avg/S.

UNO had three players with double digit kills in the win over Lamar.  Grice, Kyra Hunter (11) and Rondolyn Bryant (10).

Lane Hindenburg, a junior, has a top ten statistical ranking in the conference.  She is ninth in the SLC in hitting percentage at .292.

Currently, McNeese (16-11,7-5 Southland) sits in sixth place in the Southland Conference.  They handed conference leader Central Arkansas its second conference defeat of the season back on October 14.

The Cowgirls are paced by sophomore Shanna Spree, who is sixth in the Southland Conference in hitting at .318.  She's also seventh in the Southland Conference in service aces.

Angela McGownd is tops in the Southland Conference in digs with a total of 542 for 5.16Avg/S.

This will be the only meeting this season between the schools.   Last year McNeese won both outings.

After the trip to Lake Charles, the Privateers will travel to Thibodaux, Louisiana to face Nicholls, Saturday, November 4.  First serve is Noon.
