Women’s Basketball Take on Nationally-Ranked Miami Tuesday

Privateers went 1-1 in Preseason WNIT Consolation Bracket

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - After hosting a Consolation Round of the Women's Preseason National Invitation Tournament, the University of New Orleans (1-2) heads to South Beach to face the University of Miami (2-1), November 21 at 10 a.m. CT at Watsco Arena.
 
New Orleans went 1-1 at Lakefront Arena Friday-Saturday, coming from behind to defeat CSUN 76-73 before cutting a 20-point Houston lead to eight the day after. Ultimately, the Cougars defeated the Privateers 78-66.
 
Senior Randi Brown has picked up where she left off last season, leading the Southland Conference in scoring averaging 22.3 points per contest. Brown, who led the conference and finished seventh in the nation in scoring in 2016-17, poured in 38 points in the victory over the Matadors Friday. For her performances, Brown was named College Sports Madness Southland Conference Player of the Week and Southland Conference Player of the Week.
 
In Saturday's bout versus the Cougars, Shania Woods put up career numbers with 20 points and 19 rebounds – 15 points and seven boards coming in the third period. She is grabbing 8.3 rebounds a contest.
 
Kayla Mundy averages 7.7 points a game and had 13 in the win over CSUN and Halie Matthews is the top rebounder for the Privateers with 6.7 an outing. The senior had 10 rebounds against Louisiana-Lafayette in the season opener.
 
Miami, coached by former Tulane assistant Katie Meier, is ranked 24th in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The U has victories over Florida International, Vermont and a road-defeat at the hands of Colorado, 67-61.
 
Freshman Mykea Gray (19.3) is the team's leading scorer while senior Eryka Davenport (9.0) is the top rebounder.
 
The last time UNO and Miami met on the court was November 26, 1984 in Memphis.  Miami won the consolation game of the Lady Tiger Classic hosted by Memphis, 77-57. 
 
New Orleans will continue its short road trip Friday, November 24, in Mobile, Alabama versus South Alabama. The Privateers will return home Thursday, November 30, at 7 p. m. to face Jacksonville State.
