HAMMOND, La. – The University of New Orleans women's tennis team dominated its way to a 4-1 victory over Nicholls State University Friday at the Southeastern Tennis Complex. The win completed day one of the George E. Fourmaux Fed Cup Invitational.
The Privateers, competing in the Gold Division, tied Lamar University atop the standings with four wins.
Claudette Gilhespie and Mar Gendra were lights out in their respective singles flights, earning the W 6-2, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-2, respectively. Yurina Asai needed a tiebreaker to upend Lingfeng Gu 6-4, 5-7, 11-9.
In doubles play, Anja Luethi and Trang Dao made quick work with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Below is the breakdown.
