NEW ORLEANS –
The University of New Orleans women's tennis team picked up its second win in as many weeks on Friday afternoon, sweeping Loyola University of New Orleans 7-0 at the University Tennis Center.

Against Loyola (1-3), who competes in the NAIA, New Orleans' (2-2) freshman Claudette Gilhespie and sophomore Brittany Johnson both finished the match without dropping a single game in either singles or doubles play.

"I was pleased with how we played today," head coach Burzis Kanga said. "All across the board we played well against one of the better Loyola teams we have faced. We had some challenges at the beginning of the match but we were able to make adjustments and get the victory."

The Privateers dominated in doubles play to take the 1-0 advantage, holding Loyola to a combined four games won. Playing at the third position, Johnson and Gilhespie blanked Tori Sutherland and Ariana Rivera from Loyola 6-0, while sophomore Trang Dao and senior Yasmine Rashad only allowed Margaret Adams and Nadja Ochsner to one game in a 6-1 victory at the second court. Junior Anja Luethi and senior Anna Segarra Rius kept their perfect record in tact at UNO's top doubles flight with a 6-3 victory over Koral Martinez and Miranda Cano.

In singles play, UNO quickly clinched the contest with three matches ending in 6-0, 6-0 scores. Gilhespie, playing at the fourth position, continued her strong start to the season with her third-straight victory while Segarra and Johnson also swept their opponents on courts three and five. While not completing a perfect sweep, Luethi and Rashad came close against their Loyola opposition with 6-0, 6-1 victories at the second and sixth position. The final match to end was at the top flight, where Dao lost the opening set to Martinez from Loyola but bounced back in the second and tiebreaker set to prevail 4-6, 6-2, 10-5.

The Privateers are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 11 when they host Southern at 11 a.m. UNO opens Southland Conference play when they host Nicholls on Friday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.
