Women's Tennis Begins Four-Match Homestand Saturday Against Southeastern Louisiana

Privateers go for third-straight victory Saturday against Lions

NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans women's tennis team returns to the friendly confines of the University Tennis Center after a three-match road swing on Saturday, Mar. 11 when the Privateers host Southeastern Louisiana in a Southland Conference bout at 2 p.m.

UNO has defeated Southeastern La. more than any other Southland Conference foe, currently leading the all-time series 14-2 not including the Privateers' 3-2 victory over the Lions in the George E. Fourmaux Fed Cup Invitational this past fall. In last springs' installment, New Orleans bested Southeastern 4-3 on the road with sophomore Trang Dao winning in both singles and doubles play.

"This is a crucial stretch of home matches for us," head coach Burzis Kanga said. "Three of the four matches are against Southland Conference opponents, including our match tomorrow against Southeastern Louisiana. Our league is incredibly competitive, anyone can beat anyone on any given day, our conference schedule this season is home-heavy and we need to capitalize on that."

New Orleans (6-3, 1-1 Southland Conference) comes into the conference tilt on a two-match winning streak with back-to-back 4-3 victories, with the most recent coming against Alabama State. Junior Anja Luethi leads UNO with 11 total victories, while senior Anna Segarra Rius and freshman Claudette Gilhespie both have 6-1 marks in singles play.

Southeastern Louisiana (3-5, 0-1 Southland Conference) is currently on a five-match skid, most recently dropping a 4-3 league match to Nicholls. Dalina Dahlmans and Fleau Holtkamp both have 4-4 records in singles action, while the two pair up at the Lions top doubles flight for a 5-3 record to give them nine total wins.

UNO's homestand continues on Sunday, Mar. 12 against Rhode Island, who has yet to win a match this spring. Southland Conference continues on Friday, Mar. 17 against Stephen F. Austin with Northwestern State wrapping up the homestand on Sunday, Mar. 19.
