NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans women's tennis team plays its penultimate road match of the 2017 season on Wednesday when the Privateers travel to Jackson, Mississippi to take on Jackson State.
All-Time, New Orleans (10-4) holds an 11-0 advantage over Jackson State (7-1), besting the Tigers 7-0 last season. Playing in her final match against JSU, senior
Anna Segarra Rius is a combined 6-0 against the opponent.
"This is a very busy week for us," head coach
Burzis Kanga said. "Following our match against Jackson State we have four-straight days of matches at home, with arguably our biggest match of season on Sunday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. We cannot overlook our opponent tomorrow though. Jackson State is a good team that can challenge us if we don't start the match strong."
The Privateers enter the match following a 4-3 setback against Abilene Christian on Saturday. Junior
Anja Luethi leads the team with 16 total victories, eight in singles and eight in doubles, while freshman
Claudette Gilhespie leads the team with 10 victories in singles play.
Jackson State enters the match after a 4-0 outing in the "SWAC Round Up 2" with Tyler Smith going undefeated at the top singles flight with three victories at the second doubles position.
The Privateers return to the University Tennis Center on Friday, Mar. 31 when they take on Middle Tennessee at 2 p.m. to start a four-match homestand.
