NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans women's tennis team travels to Conway, Arkansas for its final road match of the 2017 regular season, a Saturday, April 8, contest against Southland Conference foe Central Arkansas.
New Orleans (13-6, 5-3 Southland Conference) went 2-2 in their most recent four-match homestand, including going 1-1 against conference opponents with a 6-1 triumph over UIW ending the stretch of four matches in as many days. Junior
Anja Luethi leads UNO with 12 victories in doubles play, all at the number one position, with 25 total victories. Sophomore
Trang Dao, the reigning Southland Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, and freshman
Claudette Gilhespie match Luethi's team-best singles victory total of 13.
"This is a big conference match for us," head coach
Burzis Kanga said. "Central Arkansas is a good team, they should be considered one of the favorites to win the conference this season. A big win against UCA would prove that we deserve to be in the conversation of best teams in the league."
Central Arkansas (15-5) begins a weekend homestand with the Privateers, returning to their home courts after defeating McNeese and Nicholls on the road last weekend. Qili Ma leads the Bears with 15 wins in singles action and 14 in doubles for 29 total victories.
Following the road match, UNO concludes the 2017 regular season at home with Sam Houston State coming to the University Tennis Center on Friday, April 14, followed by a match against Lamar the following day.
