Anja Luethi Wins Both Matches, but Women's Tennis Falls to North Florida

Box Score Jacksonville, Fla. - The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (0-2) were defeated 6-1 by the North Florida Ospreys (1-0) on Friday at the UNF Tennis Complex.

The lineup was shaken up a bit for the Privateers in doubles. The Ospreys won at number three in doubles, but the Privateers struck back at the number one slot with Anja Luethi and Yurina Asai taking a 6-3 victory. The Ospreys clinched the point with a 6-4 victory at number two doubles with the tandem of Rafaela Gomez and Luise Intert.

"It was a tough loss," said Coach Burzis Kanga. "Lea (Alguacil) tried playing doubles but she couldn't do it. Anja did play really well today but overall we need to make adjustments. We'll have a lot of work to do going forward."

The defending Atlantic Sun champions went straight to work in singles, clinching the first three matches that finished to seal the victory. The Ospreys won at number six when Lea Alguacil had to retire from her match due to injury.

North Florida then gained victories in straight sets at the number one and three slot to cap off their season opener with a win.

New Orleans' lone point came from Luethi who handed Valentina Mariotto a 6-2, 6-3 defeat at the number two spot. The rest of the match played out with the Ospreys taking straight set victories at four and five singles as well.

The Privateers finish off their weekend in the sunshine state on Saturday when they take on Flagler. The match is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
