New Orleans- The University of New Orleans (3-4) will try to get back to the .500 mark Wednesday, Dec. 12, when they face the Bleu Devils of Dillard University in an 11 a. m. contest at Lakefront Arena.
It is, perhaps, the shortest road trip of the season for the Bleu Devils of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), as the campuses are less than two miles apart.
UNO lost its last outing to Miami of Florida 78-38 as they return for the final home game of 2018.
"Miami was not a game you hang your head after," said head coach
Keeshawn Davenport. "I keep spelling loss, L. O. S. S. and that stands for Learning Opportunity Stay Strong."
"We did some things good and others not so good. One thing we did good was force turnovers against a nationally ranked Miami team. We got them to turn it over 14 times so we were right there with them because they had only 4 more possessions than us. The difference was they knocked down their three-pointers."
Senior center
Shania Woods continues to lead the Privateers in scoring and rebounding. The Houston, Texas senior averages 13.0 points (11
th in the Southland Conference) and 7.7 rebounds a game.
Dillard (8-4) is ranked 25
th in the nation in the latest NAIA poll. After jumping out to a 6-0 record, the Bleu Devils are in the midst of a two-game losing streak after dropping their latest game to Loyola of New Orleans,74-59, on December 8. Last season, coach Norbert Rome directed Dillard to a 23-6 record, the GCAC Tournament title and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament in Billings, Montana.
"Coach Rome has done an awesome job building that team into a nationally ranked team that plays hard all the time. That's a really good program across the way from us."
The Bleu Devils have taken two games from Division I schools Louisiana-Lafayette and Southern this season. Dillard won the last two meetings between the schools taking a 78-39 decision at Lakefront Arena on Jan. 20, 2011 and a 66-63 win on Dec.1, 2011 at Dent Hall.
