TOP SCORERS IN THE SOUTHLAND MEET WHEN NEW ORLEANS FACES SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA
Randi Brown approaches milestone
New Orleans- When the University of New Orleans women's basketball team host Southeastern Louisiana, Wednesday, February 14 at Lakefront Arena, it could be a high-scoring affair. The game will feature the two top scorers in the Southland Conference in UNO's
Randi Brown and SLU's Taylin Underwood. Tipoff is 7 p. m.
New Orleans (11-13, 7-6 SLC) will try to snap a three-game losing streak while Southeastern (6-18, 5-8 SLC) loss it's last outing to McNeese in Lake Charles, 69-47. The Privateers are currently in seventh place in the Southland Conference standings while the Lady Lions are ninth.
Wednesday's game could be a milestone contest for
Randi Brown as the senior guard has 1,976 career-points, placing her 24 points shy of 2,000 career-points. Brown will become only the second player in Privateer history to reach the 2-thousand-point plateau joining former UNO All-American Sandra Hodge (1980-84).
Brown leads the Southland Conference in scoring at 21.1 points a game. She is second in the SLC in 3-pointers made (60), fourth in steals (58) and she is fourth in free throw percentage hitting 130-of-155, 83.9%. The Houma, Louisiana native also leads the conference in minutes played (871).
Senior guard
Kayla Mundy averages 10.9 points a contest for the Privateers. She is ranked second in the Southland Conference in free throw shooting at 87.7% (57-of-65). The McKinney, Texas native has reached double figures in 11 of the last 13 games.
Center
Shania Woods continues to have her best season as a Privateer. The junior is scoring at an 11.5 clip and ranks fourth in the Southland in rebounding with 8.5 an outing. She has nine double-double performances this season, third best in the SLC. Woods is ranked second in offensive rebounds with 84 and she has been impressive from the field ranking fourth in field goal percentage, 105-of-216 for 48.6%.
New Orleans continues to lead the SLC in free throw shooting at 75.8 percent (339-of-447).
Taylin Underwood leads the Lady Lions in scoring averaging 18.3 points a game. She paces the conference in 3-pointers made with 75.
New Orleans is second-best in the conference in defending the 3-point shot holding opponents to 28.8 percent, 139-of-483.
The Privateers and the Lady Lions split two games last season with SLU winning in Hammond and UNO taking the game in New Orleans, 102-87. In that game
Randi Brown had 41 points in 39 minutes of play while Taylin Underwood scored 36 points in 37 minutes.
The Privateers will hit the court again after Wednesday evening with a home game against McNeese, Saturday, February 17. The game is part of a doubleheader at Lakefront Arena, the women face the Cowgirls at 2 p.m. while the New Orleans men face the McNeese men at 4:15 p. m.
