Women's Tennis to Host South Alabama Friday

New Orleans - The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team has endured several schedule changes already, but will be back on the court Friday when they host the South Alabama Jaguars on Friday at the University Tennis Center. The match will start at 2 p.m.

The Privateers have seen three of their matches moved including their first attempt at playing South Alabama earlier this month. Weather has played a factor in three matches being postponed so far this spring.

"Unfortunately we've had some things happening especially with bad weather," said Coach Burzis Kanga. "But I think some of the changes have served us well because it's given us time to heal with injuries sustained."

The match between the Privateers and Jaguars was originally scheduled to be played in Mobile, but rain washed out that weekend. The Jaguars are in town this weekend to face Tulane on Saturday and agreed to play the Privateers in New Orleans on Friday.

"I'm looking forward to this match," said Kanga. "It should be a solid match and they've been one of the top two teams in the Sun Belt over the years. It's a good challenge for us."

New Orleans has not played since their 7-0 win over Loyola two weeks ago. That day, five of the six players won their singles matches in straight sets including Brittany Johnson who posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at the number five spot. Anja Luethi is out to a 3-1 start in singles this season.

The Jaguars enter with a 4-0 mark on the season. They have defeated Jackson State, Xavier (La.), Grambling, and Mercer. South Alabama was 21-5 in 2017 and made it to the conference championship match in the Sun Belt before being defeated by Louisiana-Monroe.

This year, South Alabama has a young roster with four freshmen, one sophomore, and three juniors. South Alabama has experimented with different lineups, playing three different players at the top spot in the singles rotation.
