KINGSVILLE, Texas – Rhyan Rand and
Ally Carr went 4-0 in the two-day Emerald Beach Hotel Invitational and the University of New Orleans (3-6) split the final day Sunday at the Javelina Beach Volleyball Courts, falling to Texas A&M University-Kingsville (10-5) 4-1 before sweeping Ottawa University (0-4) 5-0.
VS THE JAVELINAS – LOSS 4-1
After falling 21-16 in the opening set at No. 4,
Jordan Schumacher and
Kaitlyn Grice forced a third set with a 21-17 victory. Haley Hutchinson and Kyra Henderson took the flight with a third set 15-9 W to put TAMUK in front 1-0.
Another close flight at No. 5 featured
Ally Carr and
Rhyan Rand tie the contest at 1-1 with the duo upending Maelee Sowa and Madeline Sims 21-18, 13-21, 15-12, as the No. 1-3 prepared to take the courts.
Gabby Atchley and Whitney Walker took No. 1 for the Hogs, 21-19, 21-17, to put A&M-Kingsville ahead 2-1 and Madison Brabham and Macy Berg followed with a close 21-18, 23-21 win at No. 2 to clinch the W for the host school.
At No. 3,
Madison Miller and
Brianna Vega tied the flight with a 21-18 victory in the second set to force a third.
VS OTTAWA – WIN 5-0
The best performance of the season came in the first set of No. 5 with Carr and Rand taking the last flight 21-2 and following up with a 21-14 set two to end the weekend 4-0.
Schumacher and Grice made it 2-0 UNO with a 21-10, 23-21 victory at No. 4.
Following suit,
Cara Sander and
Rachel Kuhn clinched the win for New Orleans 21-7, 21-15 at No. 1 as the Privateers concluded the Emerald Beach Hotel Invitational in Kingsville 2-2.
Victoria Corcoran and
Veronica Corcoran took No. 2 21-13, 21-16 and Miller and Vega finished off the sweep with a 21-14, 21-8 win at No. 3.
