Women's Tennis Continues Road Swing at Nicholls

New Orleans - The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will look to bounce back from a tough road weekend in conference on Tuesday when they make the trip to Thibodaux to take on the Nicholls Colonels on Tuesday. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. start at the Colonel Tennis Complex.

New Orleans (7-6, 1-3) went 0-2 against conference foes over the weekend. After dropping a 5-2 decision to Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, the Privateers were topped 6-1 by Northwestern State who is still undefeated against conference competition.

"I think we should be in a good place," said Coach Burzis Kanga. "We have trained well this week. We just need to keep working, but we should be ready for the challenge against Nicholls."

Since the Privateers joined the Southland, the two sides have split four meetings. Nicholls won in 2014 and 15. However, the Privateers have turned the tables over the last two years with 6-1 victories in each season.

Trang Dao and Anja Luethi continue to provide a strong force at the top of the doubles rotation for New Orleans. The pair are 8-1 (all in flight one) this spring. Their only loss in doubles this season was suffered against McNeese.

Nicholls (8-5, 1-3) is also looking to bounce back from two consecutive conference losses. The Colonels were shut out 7-0 by Northwestern State on Mar. 12. Two days later, the Colonels fell 5-2 to Southeastern in Hammond. Their lone conference win was a 4-3 decision over Stephen F. Austin in Thibodaux. The Colonels have protected their home court well this season with a 6-2 mark.

Stephanie Barnett and Mariia Kozachok have been the main stalwarts in singles for Nicholls. Barnett is 9-3 overall this spring and 2-2 against conference foes. Barnett has played all her singles matches in flight one. Kozachok is 9-4 overall and has played all matches at flight three. The Colonels have a 19-11 cumulative record between all three pairs in doubles this season.
