Box Score New Orleans - The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team got wins from the top two flights in singles but fell just short in doubles during a 4-3 loss to the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Saturday at the University Tennis Center.
The Wildcats fired the first shot, winning 6-3 at flight two in doubles.
Trang Dao and
Anja Luethi answered with a 6-4 win at flight one for the Privateers (8-7, 2-4). The opening point came down to a tiebreak that was won by Abilene Christian. The tiebreaker was finished by a 7-4 score.
Mar Gendra got the score back even for New Orleans as she was the first to finish with a 6-3, 6-3 win. The Wildcats answered with a win at flight three to push back ahead. The back and forth battle continued when Dao persevered in a first set tiebreak on her way to a straight set victory to get the Privateers back even at 2-2.
The Wildcats then took a pair of three-set decisions to clinch the match. Autumn Crossnoe and Sarah Eleanor Adams each won their first sets against
Brittany Johnson and
Yurina Asai. Both Privateers battled back to force a third set. However, Crossnoe won 6-4 and Adams took a 6-2 third set to clinch the victory for Abilene Christian.
Luethi's match was the last to finish and the senior notched her 12
th win of the spring in 14 decisions. Luethi came back from losing the first set 6-1 to top Lucile Pothier 6-3, 6-4 over the next two sets to give New Orleans their third point.
The Privateers will hit the road next Saturday to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The match is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.
