Privateers competing in the Tulane Green Wave Invitational

 
NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans (3-11) returns to the sand this weekend with four matches at the White Sands Volleyball Courts as part of the Tulane Green Wave Invitational April 7-8. Courts No. 1 and No. 2 can be accessed by visiting http://tulanegreenwave.com/watch/?Live=323&type=Live or on Cox Sports Television.
 
The Privateers take on No. 12 Grand Canyon University (9-12) at 8 a.m. and Houston Baptist University (9-9) at 2 p.m. Saturday before concluding the tournament with the University of Central Arkansas (7-2) as 12:30 p.m. and No. 19 Tulane University (14-10) at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
 
ABOUT NEW ORLEANS
Kaitlyn Grice, Brianna Vega and Madison Miller have six wins apiece. Expected to play at the top spot are Rachel Kuhn and Veronica Corcoran, followed by Cara Sander and Victoria Corcoran at No. 2. Vega and Miller (three wins at No. 3), Jordan Schumacher and Grice (4-3 at No. 4) and Ally Carr and Maxine Walsh round out the lineup.
 
ABOUT GRAND CANYON
Ranked No. 12 in the AVCA Beach poll, the Lopes are 9-12 this season after defeating then No. 9 Georgia State University in the Florida International University Tournament in Miami.
 
ABOUT HOUSTON BAPTIST
The Privateers defeated the Huskies 3-2 in the season opening New Orleans Beach Invitational in Covington. In the victory, Rhyan Rand and Blessing Dunn and Grice and Schumacher edged out three-set thrillers at No. 5 and No. 4, respectively, to put UNO in front 2-0 and Vega and Miller clinched the W with a 21-17, 22-20 triumph at No. 3, giving the Silver and Blue its first win of the season.
 
Winner of three straight, HBU is 9-9 this season.
 
ABOUT CENTRAL ARKANSAS
6-1 away from Conway, the Sugar Bears are led by Megan Nash and Haley Tippett, who are 7-2 at No. 1. Kristine Hjembo and Colene Hamilton are 8-1 at No. 4 and Mackenzie Dear and Shelby Holmes are 7-2 at No. 5.
 
ABOUT TULANE
Ranked No. 19 in AVCA poll, the Green Wave swept ULM in both matches Tuesday.
 
NEXT UP
Following Sunday's matches, UNO heads to the Battle on the Bayou April 14-15 in Baton Rouge.
