NEW ORLEANS – A rainy Saturday saw the Privateers begin the day with a cancellation before a delayed start to their match versus Houston Baptist University (10-9). The University of New Orleans took No. 4 with
Jordan Schumacher and
Kaitlyn Grice erasing a first-set loss to Bailey Banks and Katya Siveira with a 17-21, 23-21, 15-13 win Saturday but UNO (3-12) fell to the Huskies 4-1 at the White Sand Volleyball Courts.
Grice and Schumacher earned their sixth win as a duo in a close affair, rallying from the opening set loss with a 23-21 win and 15-13 victory to clinch the W. It put New Orleans in front 1-0.
At No. 5,
Ally Carr and
Maxine Walsh knotted the dual up at 1-1 after falling in the first set 23-21 with a dominating 21-11 victory to force a do or die set. Danielle Wheeler and Mikayla Vivens tied the match at 1-1 taking the third set 15-11.
The Huskies took a 2-1 lead with the win at No. 2 and
Brianna Vega and
Madison Miller looked to tie the match again, taking the first set 21-17. However, HBU won No. 2 and No. 3 to clinch the win.
At the top flight,
Veronica Corcoran and
Rachel Kuhn opened with a 21-17 win.
