Women's Tennis Hosts Central Arkansas on Senior Day

Lone senior, Anja Luethi to be honored before the match

New Orleans - The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will host Central Arkansas on Saturday at the University Tennis Center on Senior Day. Before the match, lone senior Anja Luethi will be recognized for her career accomplishments.

"Anja is one of the hardest workers I've coached," said Coach Burzis Kanga. "She's represented not only the tennis team well but has also been a great ambassador for UNO. She always gave full effort and I could always depend on her. I can't say enough good things about Anja."

Luethi has posted 53 singles victories in her career entering the weekend, the most by any Privateer since 2000. Luethi is just the third Privateer in that span to reach the 50-win mark for her career. This season, she is 12-4 in singles and 11-1 in doubles along with teammate, Trang Dao. Luethi has also been recognized by the ITA and the Southland Conference for her academic achievements. Last season, she was named to the Southland's all-academic team. She has also been tabbed as an ITA scholar athlete.

"My time at UNO has been one of the best experiences of my life and I will cherish this time forever," said Luethi. "UNO will always have a special place in my heart and memories."

For the Privateers (9-8, 3-5) three matches remain to try to hold onto one of the spots in the Southland Conference tournament. Entering Saturday, New Orleans sits in a tie for seventh with Incarnate Word whom the Privateers defeated in their last outing.

Central Arkansas (10-5, 3-3) is looking to bounce back from a pair of home losses. The Sugar Bears were defeated 4-3 by Nicholls last Friday. Less than 24 hours later, McNeese also edged out Central Arkansas by a 4-3 score line. The Sugar Bears currently hold the sixth spot in the standings.

The doubles tandems have been strong for Central Arkansas this season, posting a combined record of 31-10. Individually, two pairs have scored 10 wins. In singles, Marli Van Heerden has been undefeated this spring with a 12-0 mark while playing between flight five and six. Hee-Jin Oh has posted a 10-4 mark with seven of those wins coming at flight three.
