AUBURN, Ala. –
Austin Vos and
Mats Westkamp made a run to the Round of 16 in the doubles draw on Saturday at the ITA Southern Regional at Yarbrough Tennis Center.
DAILY RECAP
The Privateers notched six wins on the weekend in singles and doubles. Vos and Westkamp made noise in the doubles bracket early on in the day after winning their second round match against Avi Shugar and Sam Fischer of Alabama.
Trailing by a break at 3-0 down, the Privateer duo regrouped and ripped off five consecutive games to take a 5-3 lead. They were able to sustain the momentum to an 8-4 victory, which set up a third round match against the eight-seed, Tim Sandkaulen and and Simon Junk of Ole Miss.
It was a back-and-forth tilt, but the Ole Miss duo gained a late service break then served out to win the match 8-6.
Johannes Klein and
Misha Fomenkov also played in the morning session after winning their first round doubles match. They were defeated 8-1 by Lukas Englehardt and Nikola Slavic of Ole Miss.
FROM COACH KANGA
"I thought we played well overall in a lot of aspects. It's always disappointing to lose but I feel like we opened a lot of eyes around the region. It was a good tournament for us against some very tough competition."
