RESULTS
HAMMOND, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team got an early look at a couple of Southland opponents on Sunday as they went 2-1 as a team at the George E. Fourmaux Invitational at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

The Privateers picked up wins over Southland foes, Nicholls and Lamar. The day ended with a narrow 3-2 loss against West Florida.

NEW ORLEANS-4 NICHOLLS-1
The afternoon started with the Privateers gutting out two tiebreakers against the Colonels. In doubles,
Mar Gendra and
Salma Abdelrahim were taken to a tiebreak at 8-8. They won the breaker 10-8.

In singles,
Ank Vullings was pushed to a tiebreak against freshman, Simona Maksimovic. Vullings prevailed by a 9-7 score line in the deciding breaker for New Orleans.

The Privateers also got wins from
Claudette Gilhespie and
Yurina Asai in singles. Gilhespie outlasted Morgan Forshag 8-5 while Asai dominated Mikaela Konstantinova 8-0.

NEW ORLEANS-3 LAMAR-2
New Orleans was pushed by the Cardinals in the second round of matches before coming out on top by the narrowest of margins. In doubles,
Tristanne Dechoux and
Lea Alguacil picked up an easy 8-1 victory. In singles, the Privateers were fully stretched.

Lamar won matches at flight two and four in singles by scores of 8-5 in both. However, New Orleans got the points for victory from the odd numbered flights as Vullings and Gilhespie both posted wins.

Gilhespie secured an 8-5 victory over Natalia Garcia Molina. At the top flight it was Vullings again who won this time by an 8-6 margin over 2019 Southland Conference Honorable Mention, Jasmine Buchta.

WEST FLORIDA-3 NEW ORLEANS-2
The busy day ended with a narrow defeat at the hands of West Florida, the defending Gulf South Conference champions.

This time, New Orleans came up on the short end of the decision in the lone doubles match by an 8-5 score.

In singles, the Privateers picked up a third singles victory on the day from Vullings as she defeated Karolina Silwanowicz 8-5. Gendra secured a second victory on the day for the other Privateer point when she topped Samantha Echevarria 8-4.

The Privateers will finish out the fall slate in the TOPS'L Invitational in Destin, Fla. on Nov. 15.
