Aaron Albert and pole vaulter
Jordan Courtois made the most noise for the New Orleans Privateers during the first day of competition at the 2019 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Albert finished 7
th in the men's 5,000 meters, setting a school record with a clocking of 14:56.27. The senior form Los Alomitos, California bettered the mark set 13 years ago, 15:07.53 set by Frank Bwambale.

In the women's pole vault, Courtois finished 8
th picking up one team-point for the UNO women. The New Iberia, Louisiana native broke her own school record in the event, clearing 11' 09.25". This marks the third time the senior has set the program pole vault record this season.

In the men's long jump,
Aaron Worrell's 23'-2.75" effort was good enough for 4
th place in the competition and 4 points for the men's team.

"We're getting better," said head track and field coach
Brian Johnson. "The goal was to score and we did that. So we'll see what
Danielle Lorenz does in th4e Shot put tomorrow and we'll go from there. I'm proud of my kids, they came out and fought and we had a lot of personal records today. It just wasn't enough to get us to the finals."

Day Two begins tomorrow, Feb. 25 with field events at 10 a. m. while running events start at 11 a. m. at the Birmingham CrossPlex Arena.
