NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team (6-4) fell short in another competitive match to Tulane on Saturday at White Sands Volleyball Courts. The Privateers then lost a 3-2 match that went right down to the wire against Coastal Carolina later in the day.
TULANE-4 NEW ORLEANS-1
It started out the same way for the Privateers as the first meeting against the Green Wave.
Alexa Spartz and
Maxine Walsh took extra rallies to win the first set on their way to a 23-21, 21-17 victory. That leveled the score at 1-1 after Tulane took the match at No. 4.
The Green Wave won the remaining three matches at the first three courts. Tulane won 21-14, 21-12 at No. 1. Then at No. 3, the Green Wave earned the match clinching point. After sweating out a 21-19 first set, Tulane took the second 21-16. The Privateers fell short in two competitive sets at No. 2 as well (21-18, 21-18).
COASTAL CAROLINA-3 NEW ORLEANS-2
The Privateers picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 but fell on the short end of a three-set thriller at No. 3 that ended the match in the Chanticleers' favor.
At No. 3,
Victoria Corcoran and
Ally Carr won the first set 23-21. The Chanticleers' duo of Lucy Campbell and Anaiah Boyer won the second set 21-17. That set up the match deciding set which went to Coastal Carolina by a 15-12 margin.
The day started with Coastal Carolina winning at No. 4 and No. 5, but there were several competitive sets. Walsh and Spartz forced extra rallies in the first set as did
Madison Miller and
Rhyan Rand in their first set. However, Coastal Carolina came out on the winning side of both sets and both matches.
New Orleans rallied back to tie the score at 2-2.
Veronica Corcoran and
Rachel Kuhn rallied back from down a set to win 19-21, 21-16, 21-14.
Blessing Dunn and
Brianna Vega followed by gutting out the first set and dominating the second for a 21-19, 21-10 win.
NEXT UP
The Privateers will participate in the HBU Invitational from Mar. 29-30 in Houston. They will have matches against Abilene Christian, Louisiana-Monroe, HBU, and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
