Beach Volleyball Splits Final Day of New Orleans Invitational

COVINGTON, La. – Rachel Kuhn and Veronica Corcoran began 2019 with four victories at the New Orleans Invitational as the University of New Orleans (3-1) split Saturday at Digs Volleyball Complex, blanking Huntingdon College 5-0 before falling to Spring Hill College 4-1.
 
In the top spot, Kuhn and Veronica Corcoran made quick work versus the Hawks, defeating Cheyenne Scarbrough and Halee Hatcher 21-6, 21-7. Versus Spring Hill, UNO's top duo won in straight sets 21-12, 21-13.
 
Raegan Rozas and Ehize Omoghibo made their beach debuts and upended April Reese and Alexis Creasman 21-15, 21-18, at No. 5.
 
Prior to Rozas/Omoghibo win, Madison Miller and Rhyan Rand earned a victory at No. 4 21-11, 21-11.
 
As UNO led 2-0 heading into No. 1-3, the win was clinched by Kuhn/Veronica Corcoran's dominating win. Brianna Vegas and Ally Carr matched scores with 21-14, 21-14 at No. 3. Victoria Corcoran and Blessing Dunn took No. 2 21-11, 22-20, to improve to 3-0.
 
Hours later, the Privateers trail 2-0 to the Badgers. UNO chipped away with the top flight win by Kuhn/Veronica Corcoran, but Brittany Bilotti and Taylor Hurst took No. 2 21-11, 21-15, for the win. A close third flight went to SHC 21-17, 21-19.

"The weekend was a solid opener for us," said head coach Millicent Van Norden. "We've faced some adversity early on with minor injuries, but we were able to persevere and learn about the mental toughness of our personnel. It's about how we respond as a team and what we take from each match to improve."

"This is the fastest start in our program history and we look forward to continuing the upward trend this season."
 
NEXT UP
The Privateers visit Gulf Shores for the March to May, beginning with a rematch versus Spring Hill Friday at 9 a.m. Also, on the docket during the two-day tournament are Tulane, Austin Peay and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
