Beach VB Heads to Houston for Five Matches in Two Days

HOUSTON – The University of New Orleans (6-4) returns to the sand this weekend at the HBU Invitational at Third Coast.
 
SCHEDULE
The Privateers are scheduled to take on Abilene Christian University (0-2) at 8 a.m., the University of New Mexico (6-10) at 12 p.m. and the University of Louisiana Monroe (12-8) at 2 p.m. Friday, and host Houston Baptist University (4-8) at 10 a.m. and Texas A&M University-Kingsville (8-7) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
 
ABOUT THE TEAM
Veronica Corcoran and Rachel Kuhn are 8-2 at the top spot for the Privateers. Alexa Spartz and Maxine Walsh are 6-2 at No. 5 this season. Rhyan Rand and Madison Miller are 5-5 at No. 4, Ally Carr and Victoria Corcoran have three wins at No. 3 and Blessing Dunn and Brianna Vega are 3-3 at No. 2.
 
Two weeks ago, Spartz and Walsh upended #RV Tulane University and Veronica Corcoran and Kuhn, and Dunn and Vega took the top flights versus Coastal Carolina.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
ABILENE CHRISTIAN
A relatively new program, the Wildcats are 0-2 this season with losses to New Mexico. Last season, the Privateers blanked ACU in the inaugural meeting between the programs.
 
NEW MEXICO
New Mexico took the lone meeting 5-0 in Baton Rouge April 30, 2016.
 
The Lobos began the year receiving votes in the AVCA poll.
 
ULM
The Warhawks hosted the ULM Bayou Bash last week and split its meetings with Texas A&M-Kingsville. ULM and UNO will meet three times this season.
 
ULM leads the series 10-0 after taking last year's season opener 3-2. In the close setback, Kuhn teamed with Cara Sander at No. 1 to down Grace Convey and Gabby Love 21-17, 21-16. Vega and Miller took No. 4 over Allie Kemp and Bailey Smith 21-18, 23-21.
 
HBU
In the midst of a seven-match losing streak, the Huskies host the HBU Invitational. The clubs are scheduled to meet three times this season.
 
New Orleans went 1-4 against HBU last season. The Huskies lead the series 8-1.
 
TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE
The Javelinas won the AVCA Small College (Division II) Championship last season in year No. 2 as a program. Under Tanya Allen, TAMUK is 8-7 this season. Last year, the Javelinas defeated the Privateers 4-1 in Kingsville.
 
TAMUK and UNO are 1-1 in the brief history. Tenley Housler and Whitney Walker are 7-4 at the top flight and are in the midst of a seven-match win streak. The duo is 4-0 at No. 2. Kylexus Block and Madison Brabham are 8-3 at No. 2 and Macy Berg and Haley Hutchinson are 11-4 at No. 3.
