Four Matches in Two Days Awaits Beach Volleyball

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The University of New Orleans (3-1) looks to avenge a loss to Spring Hill College (7-0) in the first of four matches as the Privateers travel for the inaugural March to May, hosted by UAB. The two-day tournament will be hosted at Gulf Shores Main Public Beach, the site of the NCAA National Championships.
 
New Orleans is scheduled to take on Spring Hill and #RV Tulane University (5-6) on Friday at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively, followed by Saturday matches versus Austin Peay State University (0-0) at 9 a.m. and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (3-1) at 2 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE TEAM
Veronica Corcoran and Rachel Kuhn are 4-0 at No. 1, and Alexa Spartz and Maxine Walsh are 2-0 at No. 5. Madison Miller and Rhyan Rand went 3-1 on opening weekend at No. 3.
 
Against Spring Hill, Kyhn and Veronica Corcoran dominated Payton Gidney and Kassandra Fairly at the top flight, 21-12, 21-13.
 
In the initial AVCA rankings (February 25), the Privateers received votes for the first time.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
SPRING HILL
The Badgers are 7-0 in 2019 after concluding the New Orleans Invitational with a 4-1 win over UNO. SHC is 10-1 versus the Privateers.
 
TULANE
On a three-match win streak following the sweep over the University of Southern Mississippi on Mardi Gras, #RV Tulane enters with a 5-6 overall mark. Receiving votes in the AVCA National Rankings, the Green Wave pair of Kaylie McHugh and Eva Torruella are 8-3 at No. 1. McHugh and Tarin Mergener received preseason honors by the CCSA.
 
Tulane is 8-0 against New Orleans, but last season, Kuhn and Veronica Corcoran took No. 2 21-17, 17-21, 15-13.
 
AUSTIN PEAY
Austin Peay went 11-12 last season and the Govs begin 2019 with the March to May. Ginny Gerig earned 10 wins at No. 1 last season, and Chloe Stitt tied with two for a team-high 11 victories.
 
UNO is 2-1 versus the Govs, but Austin Peay took last season's meeting 3-2. Twins Victoria Corcoran and Veronica Corcoran upended Jenna Panning and Haley Turners 21-9, 21-13 at No. 2 and Brianna Vega and Miller defeated Kaylee Taff and Cori Theiss 21-11, 22-20 at No. 4.
 
TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI
The Islanders are 3-1 on the young season after regrouping following a season-opening loss to Texas A&M-Kingsville. TAMUCC defeated San Jose State University and ULM (twice) on its campus.
 
Selina Marolf and Abigail DeVido are 4-0 at No. 1. New Orleans and A&M-Corpus Christi are 2-2 in the brief series.
