NEW ORLEANS PRIVATEERS TRACK TEAMS GET HIGH MARKS IN FIRST MEET OF THE OUTDOOR SEASON

RESULTS

Lake Charles, Louisiana
- Danielle Lorenz and Aaron Worrell were the top scorers for the University of New Orleans at the Cowboys Relays, Saturday in Lake Charles.

Lorenz, who finished third at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships in the shot put, won the event with a toss of 47' 8.50", good enough for 10 points. The junior from Dardanelle, Arkansas was 3rd in the discus (134' 4") and 6th in the hammer (143' 2") for a total of 19 points on the day.

Worrell, from Christ Church, Barbados, had a big day tallying 18 points by winning the long jump with a leap of 24' 5.75" and a 3rd place finish in the 100 meters with a personal record of 10.58 seconds.

Freshman Vojislav Gvero won the hammer throw with a school record of 202' 7".  He set the school record in the weight throw indoors in January at the KMS Invitational in Birmingham.

Additional Privateer highlights saw Addison Fraker of Peachtree City, Georgia finishing 3rd in the women's hammer (150' 5") and 8th in the shot for a total of 7 points.

New Orleans' 4X400 men's relay team of Harrison Coleman, Matthew Clarke, Kemar Cumberbatch and Aaron Worrell took 3rd place with a time of 3:15.4.

Head track and field coach Brian Johnson was pleased with the first outdoor meet of the season.

"I think we competed very well considering the circumstances.  We've been working them hard the last week and a half.  For them to come out like this and compete means we are on the right path.  We had good showings just about everywhere."

New Orleans returns to the track Friday and Saturday, March 15-16 for the Louisiana Classics at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
