NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will get back to the court on Sunday as Southland play continues when they face the Northwestern State Lady Demons. The match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start at the University Tennis Center.
The Privateers (7-3, 1-2 Southland) have endured three consecutive matches that have been decided by the narrowest of margins. All three conference matches have finished with a 4-3 score. New Orleans fell on the short end of that result on Friday against Central Arkansas.
In the home loss, the Privateers won the first three singles flights but lost the doubles point for just the second time this spring. Central Arkansas won flights four through six in singles.
Salma Abdelrahim was bumped up in the rotation to flight three and the freshman responded with a singles win at her new spot. On the season, Abdelrahim is 6-2 in singles. She is one of three Privateers to amass six wins this spring.
Trang Dao and
Mar Gendra are also at that mark.
In doubles, Dao and
Ank Vullings continue to be a force at the top flight. The duo is 6-0 overall and 3-0 against conference foes after their doubles win on Friday. In singles, Vullings picked up her fifth win of the season and her second at flight one.
New Orleans is 9-6 against the Lady Demons. However, Northwestern State has controlled the series lately by winning six of the last seven meetings heading into Sunday. The only losses for Northwestern State (8-2, 2-0) this year have come against Tulane and North Texas.
Judit Castillo has been tough between flights five and six with a 7-1 record. Ela Iwaniuk and Rhea Verma also have six wins each entering Sunday. Collectively, the Lady Demons are 19-4 in doubles matches this spring. Verma and Patrycja Polanska are 7-0 in doubles.
