Beach Volleyball Dominates Day Two in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Privateers eased their way to a Saturday sweep at LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium, defeating Spring Hill College 4-1 and Nicholls State University 5-0. With the victories, the University of New Orleans (12-10) close out the Battle on the Bayou 2-2.
 
On the weekend, Veronica Corcoran and Rachel Kuhn went 3-1 at No. 1 and Victoria Corcoran and Ally Carr matched the mark at No. 3.
 
NEW ORLEANS DEFEATS SPRING HILL 4-1
With all five courts playing at the same time, the Privateers closed out the match in style, with three-set victories at No. 1 (Veronica Corcoran and Kuhn) and No. 5 (Madison Miller and Rhyan Rand). Victoria Corcoran and Carr took No. 3 21-14, 21-19, and Blessing Dunn and Brianna Vega continued their solid season with a 21-18, 21-12 win at No. 2.
 
NEW ORLEANS DEFEATS NICHOLLS 5-0
Dunn and Vega made quick work at No. 2 with a 21-8, 21-7 victory, followed by Miller and Rand's 21-11, 21-13 win at No. 5.
 
Veronica Corcoran and Kuhn won the top flight 21-9, 21-16 as did Victoria Corcoran and Carr at No. 3 (21-10, 21-16) to make it 4-0 UNO with the match already clinched for the Privateers.
 
Ehize Omoghibo and Alexa Spartz completed the sweep with a 21-14, 19-21, 15-7 win at No. 4.
 
SEASON NUMBERS
With an 8-2 mark in their last 10 matches, Veronica Corcoran and Kuhn are 17-5 at the top spot this season. Victoria Corcoran and Carr have 11 wins as a duo and 13 overall. Dunn, Vega, Miller and Rand each have 11 wins and Spartz has 10 in her first season on the Lakefront.
 
NEXT UP
The Privateers close out the 2019 campaign with the Southland Showcase. It's the last season without a conference affiliation as the Southland announced it will sponsor beach volleyball beginning next season.
 
UNO hosts the three-day tournament at Digs Volleyball Complex in Covington and welcomes Nicholls, the University of Central Arkansas, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Abilene Christian University and Houston Baptist University.
 
The Privateers are 3-1 at Digs this season and 5-1 versus the future Southland foes/next weekend's opponents.
