COVINGTON, La. – #RV University of New Orleans (12-10) closes out the historic 2019 campaign hosting the Southland Showcase Thursday-Saturday at Digs Volleyball Complex. The Privateers welcome Abilene Christian University (3-11), #RV University of Central Arkansas (5-7), Houston Baptist University (9-11), Nicholls State University (0-12) and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (9-13).
In the midst of its best season as a program, UNO collected 12 wins the season No. 5 as a program. 2019 is the final season as independent as the Southland Conference announced it will sponsor beach volleyball beginning with the 2020 campaign.
The schedule has changed due to weather in the area and the Privateers will play two Thursday, taking on Central Arkansas at 8:15 a.m. and Nicholls at 12 p.m. On the docket Friday are A&M-Corpus Christi (10:30 a.m.), Abilene Christian (1 p.m.) and HBU (3:30 p.m.).
The championship is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday. Following the title match, seniors
Madison Miller and
Blessing Dunn will be honored for their contributions to the beach volleyball program.
SEASON NUMBERS
With an 8-2 mark in their last 10 matches,
Veronica Corcoran and
Rachel Kuhn are 17-5 at the top spot this season.
Victoria Corcoran and
Ally Carr have 11 wins as a duo and 13 overall. Dunn,
Brianna Vega, Miller and
Rhyan Rand each have 11 wins and
Alexa Spartz has 10 in her first season on the Lakefront.
The Privateers are 3-1 at Digs this season and 5-1 versus the future Southland foes/this weekend's opponents.
