COVINGTON, La. – The University of New Orleans defeated Abilene Christian University 3-0 and forced a third set in two flights versus Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and four against Houston Baptist University Friday at Digs Volleyball Complex.
The Privateers, now 15-12, began the morning with a 3-0 setback to the Islanders.
Veronica Corcoran and
Rachel Kuhn took the opening set at No. 1 21-19 and fell 22-20 but the flight went unfinished.
Victoria Corcoran and
Ally Carr won No. 3 21-13 before TAMUCC squeaked past the pair 21-19 to force a third set.
UNO made quick work of ACU as
Veronica Corcoran and Kuhn took No. 1 21-16, 21-11,
Victoria Corcoran and Carr were victorious at No. 3 21-8, 21-10 and
Madison Miller and
Rhyan Rand took No. 5 21-9, 21-17. Prior to calling the match,
Blessing Dunn and
Brianna Vega erased a first-set loss and led 18-14.
Alexa Spartz and
Ehize Omoghibo did the same, leading 20-13 and at the exhibition,
Maxine Walsh and
Raegan Rozas were ahead 21-17, 18-14.
A marathon ended in heartbreak for UNO in the third match of the day as HBU was able to escape with a win despite four three-set thrillers. Rand and Miller erased a 21-16 loss in the opening set to take set No. 2 21-17 at No. 5.
Omoghibo and Spartz did the same as the 23-21 set one loss was followed by a 21-19 win.
At No. 3,
Victoria Corcoran and Carr took the opener 21-15 and were tied with Lauren Huggins and Brennan Miller 15-15 in set No. 3.
Veronica Corcoran and Kuhn faced matched point in the second before overtaking a 20-19 deficit with three unanswered points to force a third set after a 22-20 victory.

The final day of the Southland Showcase begins on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Privateers taking on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Following the title match, seniors
Madison Miller and
Blessing Dunn will be honored for their contributions to the beach volleyball program.
SEASON NUMBERS
Veronica Corcoran and Kuhn are 20-5 at the top spot this season. It marks the first pair to reach 20 wins in a season for the Privateers.
