NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team put forth a strong performance in the first day of the Scramble on the Bayou at the University Tennis Center on Friday.
NOTE
Prairie View had to withdraw from the event due to the flooding from Imelda. That left the field at three teams (New Orleans, Nicholls, Jackson State). Therefore, there will not be any team scores from the event.
DOUBLES
Tristanne Dechoux had a strong debut day with three wins (two doubles and one singles). In doubles, she paired with
Ank Vullings for two victories, both by 6-2 margins.
Salma Abdelrahim and
Annalena Eggestein also had a victory against Jackson State.
Mar Gendra and
Yurina Asai teamed up for a victory against Nicholls.
SINGLES
Dechoux persevered in a battle in the first set against Noelle Frenzel. After jumping to a 5-2 lead in the second set, Dechoux was able to see the match out with a hold of serve for a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
Gendra was taken to a third set after Nicholls' Morgan Forshag won a second set tiebreaker. However, Gendra dominated the 10-point third set by a 10-2 mark to put the exclamation point on an undefeated day for New Orleans.
Vullings and Gilhespie scored victories against Nicholls in singles. Abdelrahim and Asai also posted wins against Jackson State in singles.

The Scramble on the Bayou concludes on Saturday. Matches start at 10 a.m.
