NEW ORLEANS – The 2019-20 season got off to a strong start with New Orleans volleyball going 2-1 in its opening tournament, men's cross country winning the New Orleans Cross Country Opener and
Arina Kleshchukova placing first in the women's side.
VOLLEYBALL
This week, the Privateer volleyball team will make the near two-hour trip to Hattiesburg to participate in the Southern Miss Volleyball Classic on Sept. 5-6. New Orleans will play host school Southern Miss along with Mississippi State and Arkansas State.
HEADLINES

Lucie Pokorna was named Setter of the Tournament at the New Orleans Invitational after racking up 113 assists in 11 sets. Pokorna also tallied 17 kills on a .560 hitting percentage and served up nine aces (five vs. North Dakota).
- The match against Mississippi State will be the first for the Privateers on the court since 2002. New Orleans is 7-3 in 10 all-time meetings against the Bulldogs.

Rhyan Rand served up six aces in the weekend finale against UAPB. It was tied for the second most service aces in a match by a Privateer since 2016.
Brianna Vega had seven in an Oct. 2018 match against McNeese.
- Vega was named to the All-Tournament Team after a weekend that included setting a career match high in kills. Vega produced 22 kills in the season opening triumph against North Dakota.

The New Orleans golf team opens its 2019-20 season at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday of next week. The tournament takes place at the Hattiesburg Country Club and features a 6,902 yard 71-par course. Senior
