NEW ORLEANS - After a sterling season on the course, University of New Orleans senior golfer
Tom Watson was named second-team All-Louisiana by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association on Wednesday afternoon.
Watson played in all 11 tournaments and all 33 rounds for the Privateers this season, posting a team-leading stroke average of 72.636 — a top-eight single-season average in school history. The senior finished the year with 12 rounds under par, including seven rounds in the 60s. He also made 101 birdies and five eagles.
His best finish and lowest 54-hole score came at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in March, when he shot 208 and finished third. Watson also finished eighth at the Southland Championship with a 218. His low round of the season was 65, shot in the opening round of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate - part of back-to-back rounds below 70.
He completed his two-year career on the Lakefront having played 54 rounds across 18 tournaments and posting a 73.278 career scoring average, the fourth-best career average in school history among golfers with 40 or more rounds. He recorded six top-20 finishes, four top-10 finishes and one third-place finish, all this season.
Watson became the 22nd All-Louisiana selection in program history and the first since Kyle Bennett and
Matt Weber were honored following the 2023-24 season.
He is joined on the second team by Louis Anceaux (ULM), Noah McWilliams (LSU), Aubrey Snell (Centenary), and Arni Sveinsson (LSU). The first team is Malagan Potgieter (UL) Jay Mendell (LSU), Matty Dodd-Berry (LSU), Davis Marsh (SLU) and Dan Hayes (LS). Potgieter was named the Louisiana Player of the Year, Hayes the Freshman of the Year and LSU's Jake Amos the Coach of the Year.
HEAD COACH JEFF LORIO
"Tom is very deserving of this honor. He's worked tirelessly on his game and really showed great results this Spring. He was a great leader for this team and a tremendous representative of this University. I cannot be prouder of Tom and his accomplishments during his tenure in New Orleans."
