Privateer Great Jenny Anderson Sledge Receives Filbert 5 Award

One of the best to ever do it in New Orleans women's basketball history was honored with a Filbert 5 Award by the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame for her contributions to the game of basketball.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Former New Orleans women's basketball great Jenny Anderson Sledge was one of the honorees to receive a Filbert 5 Award from the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame at the organization's annual Basketball Tip-Off Luncheon at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds' E-Plex East Wing in Springfield, Mo. on Wednesday.

The award is given to former high school and collegiate standouts who have made an outstanding impact in the sport of basketball in the state of Missouri. It was named after the late Gary Filbert, a successful high school basketball coach who was the founder of the Show-Me State Games as well as the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association. Filbert is a Missouri Sports Hall of Fame inductee and in 2011 was honored as a Missouri Sports Legend by the Hall of Fame.Anderson_WBB

Sledge is the all-time leading scorer at her alma mater, Kickapoo High School in Springfield, Mo. She recorded 1,755 points in a career spanning from 1992 to 1995.

While there, the Lady Chiefs compiled a record of 103-13 with Sledge, which included a pair of state runner-up finishes (1993 and 1994) and a 38-2 record in the Ozark Conference.

Sledge was a two-time All-State selection and ranks in the top-five in eight other statistical categories, which includes first in most career field goals made (743) in the state.

She then came to the University of New Orleans where she turned into a star during her four-year career with the Privateers.

Sledge was a two-time all-conference honoree and was named to the All-Louisiana Team in 1996-1999. Additionally, she was named the Defensive Player of the Year in 1997-98 by the same association.

Sledge ranks fifth in both career points (1,441) and rebounds (760). She is one of just three Privateers in program history to reach the 1,400 points/700 rebounds plateau.
