Vega, Kuhn Go 2-0 Saturday, Beach VB Now 7-3 Overall

COVINGTON, La. – New Orleans (7-3) swept Southland Conference foe Nicholls 5-0 and the No. 3 pair of Brianna Vega and Rachel Kuhn defeated No. 20 Tulane to pace the Privateers to a Saturday split at Digs Volleyball Complex.

3. Rachel Kuhn/Brianna Vega (UNO) def. Bailey Lyons/Katie Jones (NICH) 21-15, 21-15
4. Alexa Spartz/Chloe Hampton (UNO) def. Jackie Alanis/Jaida Felix (NICH) 21-18, 21-19
5. Maxine Walsh/Trinity Jackson (UNO) def. Meghan Wozniak/Halee Brewer (NICH) 21-13, 21-12

The Privateers won all six flights in straight sets to improve to 1-1 against Southland opponents this season. Taylore Louviere and Hailey Melerine took the exhibition 21-13, 21-18, Maxine Walsh and Trinity Jackson moved to 3-0 in the UNO Invite with a win at No. 5 and New Orleans took a 2-0 lead following Alexa Spartz and Chloe Hampton's 21-18, 21-19 win.
 
Victoria Corcoran and Ally Carr upended Nicholls in convincing fashion at No. 2 21-11, 21-9 to clinch the win for the Privateers. For good measure, Veronica Corcoran and Lucie Pokorna won the top flight 21-14, 21-17 and Rachel Kuhn and Brianna Vega took No. 3 21-15, 21-15.

Kuhn and Vega won in straight sets 21-19, 25-23 to make it 2-1 Tulane after Walsh and Jackson fell in a close one at No. 5.
 
In the exhibition, Hailey Melerine and Hannah Volpi took the first set 21-15.
 
At the top flight, Veronica Corcoran and Pokorna gave the nationally-ranked Green Waves pair a scare before Tulane escaped Digs with a 22-20, 21-19 win.
 
NEXT UP
The Privateers head to HBU for the Southland Roundup. New Orleans is scheduled to take on the Huskies, Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas and SFA.
