NEW ORLEANS – Coach
Burzis Kanga continued the theme of adding student-athletes with prior collegiate experience after signing Estelle Vanthier for the 2020-21 season. Vanthier was previously at Green Bay.
JOURNEY TO NEW ORLEANS
Vanthier has previously played for Illinois State and more recently, Green Bay. While with the Redbirds, Vanthier was ranked as high as 114 in Division I singles (Fall 2018). She was also part of a conference championship winning squad (2018-19).
From there, Vanthier went to Green Bay where she immediately slotted into the top of the Phoenix's rotation. She went 7-5 in the spring season with nine of those matches coming at flight one. She also played at the top flight in doubles.
PRIOR TO THE STATES
A native of Geneva, Switzerland, Vanthier achieved a top 20 ranking at the junior level in her home country. She also won the Geneva championship six times and was a qualifier for the main draw of the Swiss championships.
FROM VANTHIER
"I decided to come to UNO because I got an incredible welcoming feeling from Coach Burzis, Coach Amber and the players. I believe that UNO is the best place for me to improve my game but also grow as a person."
"I think that we can have the opportunity of winning our conference and go to the NCAA Tournament, which is a goal I want to achieve one more time. I'm very thankful and excited to join the Privateer family!"
FROM COACH KANGA
"I like Estelle's competitive spirit. She played #1 at Green Bay and brings experience. She will have a great presence on our team and is one of these players we are really looking forward to making a difference. She brings both sides as a singles and doubles player."
