2020-2021 GOLF SCHEDULE | 2020-2021 GOLF ROSTER
NEW ORLEANS – Following an extended break due to the COVID-19 pandemic head coach
Jeff Lorio announced a familiar 2021 Spring Golf schedule on Monday afternoon.
The team will open the season on Feb. 14
th and 15
th when they travel down to the LaTOUR Golf Club in Mathews, La for the annual LaTOUR Intercollegiate hosted by the Nicholls Colonels. Last season
Florian Moosmeier had an opening round 66, on his way to a 206 and fifth place in his Privateer debut in Mathews.
"Obviously it was a challenge to put together the schedule this year, but our conference mates really stepped up and looked out for one another. We have a very familiar schedule – one that all our guys have played before. There will be no surprises this year, I fully expect we will hit the ground running and compete for a tournament championship at Nicholls" said Coach Lorio.
For the second straight season the Privateers will host the Gulf Coast Collegiate at the Diamondhead Country Club in Diamondhead, Miss. The squad will look to defend last year's tournament championship on March 1
st and 2
nd.
"I cannot express how pumped up we are to host the Gulf Coast Collegiate again. It will be the first time in over a decade that we get to defend a tournament championship! This year's event has drawn interest from around the country and we will have six conferences represented. Diamondhead Country Club has proven to be a great partner for us and one we look forward to building a long-lasting relationship with."
Another familiar event awaits the Privateers a week later when the team travels to Spring, Texas for the Colin Montgomerie Invitational hosted by HBU on March 8
th and 9
th at the Augusta Pines Golf Club. Led by
Grayson Gilbert the Privateers shot an 866 in at Augusta Pines last season finishing in second place, just a few strokes short of back-to-back tournament championships.
The end of March brings a trip back to Kerrville, Texas for The Big Texan. The event, hosted by UTRGV, takes place at Comanche Trace on March 22
nd and 23
rd. New Orleans was originally scheduled to play in the Big Texan last season before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. They last played in the event in 2019 finishing in 7
th place with a score of 870.
The penultimate tournament of the season comes on April 12
th and 13
th when the Privateers travel to Montgomery, Texas for the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational hosted by Sam Houston. The Privateers will play at Walden Lake at Conroe Golf Club for the third time in four years after last season's event was also canceled due to COVID-19.
The season wraps up April 26
th-28
th with the Southland Conference Championships once again taking place at the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney, Texas. The Privateers' best finish in a Southland Championship came in 2016 when they shot a 903, finishing in 7
th place.
"It's no surprise that the Southland Championship at Stonebridge will present the toughest test for our guys. That golf course requires you to be at your best – both physically and mentally – to have success. The conditions there can be very challenging at that time of the year. It becomes more a test of endurance than golf because Stonebridge will beat everyone up at some point during the tournament. Honestly I wouldn't have it any other way. After three rounds it will definitely identify the best team on the course."
