Privateers Split Opening Day, Defeat Southeastern 3-1

ELMWOOD, La. – New Orleans beach volleyball showed flashes against host Tulane and ended day one of the Green Wave Invitational at White Sands with a 3-1 victory over Southeastern Louisiana Friday.
 
The Privateers (1-1) earned victories in No. 1 (Veronica Corcoran and Victoria Corcoran), No. 3 (Alexa Spartz and Brianna Vega) and No. 4 (Madeline Drake and Liz Gialanella).
 
#RV TULANE DEFEATS NEW ORLEANS 5-0
Receiving votes in the AVCA Preseason Poll, Tulane needed to rally to down the top flight of UNO, the Corcoran twins. The set was decided by a 26-24, 21-19 score.

NEW ORLEANS DEFEATS SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA 3-1
Vega and Spartz made quick work at No. 3 with a dominating 21-11, 21-14 lead and the Corcoran twins moved to 1-1 at the top spot with a 21-16, 21-16 win over the Lady Lions.
 
Drake and Gialanella clinched the first win of 2021 and of their Privateer careers, erasing a 21-19 setback in the opening set at No. 4 with a 21-9 and 15-7 win to move UNO to 1-1 this season.
