BATON ROUGE, La. – New Orleans (5-11) defeated ULM 3-2 and fell to Texas A&M-Kingsville 3-2 on day one of the LSU Battle on the Bayou Friday at the LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium. The Privateers began with the victory over the Warhawks.
Trinity Jackson and
Hannah Volpi improved to 4-0 on their young beach season after the completion of the indoor campaign. They dominated 15-4 in the tiebreaking set over the Javelinas.
The Privateers rallied to force tiebreaking sets in three matches and erased a 2-0 deficit to defeat ULM 3-2 in the opening match.
In a must-win situation,
Madeline Drake and
Alexa Spartz took the second set at No. 4 21-18 and upended the Warhawks 15-13 to make it 2-1 ULM.
Jackson and Volpi won with a 21-18 set two win and 15-10 victory in the third at No. 5 to tie the match at 2-2.
Maxine Walsh and
Ally Carr dominated the third after taking the opening set at No. 2 15-8 to clinch the win for UNO.
Chloe Hampton and
Hailey Melerine took the opening set in the exhibition 21-8. Veronica
Corcoran and
Victoria Corcoran were down 20-17 before tying the match in set two, but the comeback fell just short 21-19, 22-20. At No. 3,
Brianna Vega and
Liz Gialanella went back and forth with Anna Demmer and Katie McKay 24-22, 21-18.
Against TAMUK, the Corcoran twins won in straight sets 24-15, 21-19.
