Women's Tennis Outlasts Islanders in Friday Thriller

Box Score NEW ORLEANSLina Hohnhold continued her winning streak to seven consecutive matches and provided the match clinching point as the New Orleans Privateers (11-2, 9-1) scored a 4-3 win over the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders (18-3, 8-2) on Friday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.

THE CLOSER
Hohnhold rallied back from down a set to score the victory that kept the Privateers tied for the top of the league standings. Hohnhold won 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 to push her season record to 10-1 in singles on the season.

PRIVATEERS RALLY IN DOUBLES
The Islanders took flight one by a 6-1 score to start the day. However, the Privateers kept on serve and were able to secure late service breaks to vault them to the first point of the day. Estelle Vanthier and Salma Abdelrahim notched a 6-4 win at flight three to set up the deciding match.

At flight two, Lea Alguacil and Ank Vullings were up a break but were taken to 40-40 on serve. That's when Vullings put away a winner at the net to give the Privateers the opening point.

SINGLES HIGHLIGHTS
Vullings and Abdelrahim were both able to notch victories in singles play to help the Privateers to the win.

In a back and forth battle, Vullings won the first set and held off the rally attempt of Mariya Shumeika for a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory.

Abdelrahim was extended to two long sets but prevailed in both of them. Abdelrahim won the first set 7-5 and prevailed in a tiebreak 7-6 (4) to move her record to 9-3 on the year.

FROM COACH KANGA
"The women fought hard and I'm very happy for them. They earned it and the team chemistry is very good. Kudos to Lina who was cramping throughout the third set. She was determined and overcame the physical challenge while winning the mental challenge."
