NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans track & field program added another key contributor to the men's squad as the Privateers announced the addition of Louisiana Tech transfer student-athlete Mason Melancon, per director Brian Johnson on Friday.

Melancon, a Houston, Texas native, just wrapped up his sophomore season with the Bulldogs, and will have two years of eligibility left with New Orleans. He will add to the men's sprint group and will also look to run a relay leg for the Privateers.

"We are glad to have Mason join our sprint squad," Johnson said. "He is a talented student-athlete and will be a great addition to what we are building here at UNO."

During his time with LA Tech, Melancon has done it all across sprint events as he has competed in the 60, 100, 200, 400, 4x100, 4x400 and distance medley relay. His most recent year has been highlighted by a fifth-place finish in the 4x100 and a sixth-placing showing in the 4x400 at the 2021 Conference USA Outdoor Championships to go with a fourth-place finish in the 4x400 and a seventh-place performance in the 100 at the 2021 Conference USA Indoor Championships.

He was also an honoree on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll throughout his time with the Bulldogs.

Before LA Tech, Melancon was a four-year letter-winner with Tomball Memorial High School, where he graduated in 2018. He was named a three-year All-District and All-Area Champion in sprints and served as a regional finalist for three years during his prep days. Melancon is a seven-time school recorder holder at Tomball Memorial.

He will enter with collegiate personal bests of 10.82 in the 100, 21.85 in the 200 and 49.63 in the 400 outdoors to go with marks of 6.95 in the 60, 22.21 in the 200 and 50.94 in the 400 indoors.
