NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans track & field program added yet another NCAA Division I Power Five transfer to the squad as Kameron Jones signed with UNO from Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) power Louisville, made official by director Brian Johnson on Monday.
Jones has competed with the Cardinals for three seasons across indoor and outdoor and will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Privateers. The Atlanta, Ga. native will look to be a force in the Southland Conference across the 60H, 400, 400H and with the 4x400 relay group.
"I am so excited to add Kameron to the men's sprint group," Johnson said. "He adds another quality sprinter to our team. He will definitely be the force we need to have a good men's 4x400m team, which will help us towards the goal of winning a team title."
Jones just concluded his 2021 campaign with a 14th-place finish in the 400H at the ACC Outdoor Championships. That followed his 35th-place showing in the 400 at the conference's indoor championship meet.
He has also experienced success in the 4x400 on the biggest stage as he helped his team to an eighth-place finish at the ACC indoor championships and a ninth-place performance at the outdoor championships in 2019.
Prior to Louisville, Jones was a standout at Dutchtown High School. He won the state title in the 110H while also racing to a runner-up finish in the 300H. To go with the individual success, he helped lead the Bulldogs to the Georgia 5A state championships. Jones was also selected to compete at the prestigious New Balance Outdoor Nationals as a prep-athlete.
Jones will enter New Orleans with collegiate personal bests of 53.75 in the 400H, 48.88 in the 400 and 8.34 in the 60H.
