Grayson Gilbert Set for 121st U.S. Amateur

NEW ORLEANS – Junior Grayson Gilbert will become the Privateers' first Div. I era golfer to represent the Privateers in the prestigious U.S Amateur golf tournament when he tees off this afternoon at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa. The Monroe native earned the right to participate in the tournament after finishing in third-place at the U.S Amateur qualifier a few weeks ago at Ellender Country Club in Houma, La.
 
FORMAT
Three hundred and twelve of the nation's best amateur golfers will begin the competition with 36-holes of stroke play over Monday and Tuesday, with the top 64 making the cut. The rounds of 64, 32, and 16 will be decided via match play on Wednesday and Thursday. The quarter-finals will take place on Friday, the Semifinals on Saturday and a 36-hole championship match on Sunday will crown the winner of the 121st U.S Amateur.

THE COURSES
The tournament is split between two courses. Oakmont Country Club will share stroke-play hosting duties with Longue Vue Club. All match play will take play at Oakmont.

Oakmont Country Club – Oakmont, Pa. | Map (PDF)
18-holes, 7,254 yards, par 70.
Oakmont is one of the most challenging courses in North America, with over 170 deep bunkers, tight fairways, and greens that slope away from the golfers. Golf Digest ranked Oakmont as the No. 5 golf course in America recently.

Longue Vue Club – Verona, Pa. | Map (PDF)
18-holes, 6,647, par 70.
Perched on a ridge above the Allegheny River the Championship course at Longue Vue features replicas of renowned Scottish holes such as the "Redan", the "Eden" and the "Alps." The course also has a 140 slope rating, subtle greens, and strategically placed bunkers designed to ensure that strength alone won't win the day.
