DAY ONE RESULTS
NEW ORLEANS – Brady Bennett's outstanding September continued Monday at the Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill.
Fresh off a top-10 placement at the Golfweek Fall Challenge, and one of the best 54-hole scores in team history, the Zachary native posted rounds of 70, and 69 to finish the opening day of the Derek Dolenc Invitational in sole possession of second place with a three-under-par 139.
The senior sank birdies on holes one, eight, nine, 17, and 18 during the morning session before adding birdies on five, six, 13, 14, and 18 during the afternoon. Brady's ten birdies were tied with Weber State's Brody Childs for the second most birdies amongst the field – one behind Trey Louis of Murray State.
Florian Moosmeier had a solid afternoon as well for the Privateers after rounds of 72, and 70 left him at even par with a score of 142 – tying him for seventh place overall through 36-holes. Flo' matched Bennett by shooting par or better on 31 out of 36 holes over two rounds
Henry Augenstein,
Lukas Heckmann, and
Grayson Gilbert all struggled on a rollercoaster-like Monday for UNO with scores of 154, 157, and 158 respectively. Gilbert sank the first Privateer eagle since last year's Big Texan (Lucas Heckmann) on hole 18 of the first round.
The Privateers finished the first two rounds with a score of 586 (+18) after rounds of 296 and 290. After a first round that ended with New Orleans tied for eighth, UNO was able to move up two spots and finish Monday in sixth place out of 14 teams.
The final round of the Derek Dolenc Invitational starts at 8:15 a.m. tomorrow morning with the Privateers teeing off on holes four, five, and six. Fans can follow along on

HEAD COACH JEFF LORIO
"We were way too loose with the tee ball today. On this type of course it's a must to get the first shot in play and we really struggled with that today – it forced us to play from behind all day. I'm very disappointed with our approach and focus today. No excuses – we will need to be better and come out tomorrow with a fresh perspective in order to make a charge up the leader board."
(on Brady Bennett)
"Brady continues to play very consistent golf for us. He hit a lot of fairways and greens. He never pressed and took advantage of opportunities when they presented themselves. It was a textbook day for Brady."
