NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans golf team shot a 302 during the third round of the Bubba Barnett Invitational holding on to sixth place on Tuesday afternoon at RidgePointe Country Club. Over three rounds UNO finished with scores of 308, 289 and 302.
For the second straight week Maximilan Wojciechowski led the way for UNO after finishing with rounds of 71, 73 and 78 (222), tying him for 19th place overall. Wojciechowski finished his 54-holes with 11 birdies and an eagle.
To close out Monday's first round the Berlin native sank five straight birdies giving the Privateers momentum. Three of Max's first six career rounds have been under par and he has finished in the top-20 of both tournaments he has appeared in.
Thomas Artigas, playing on his birthday, had a rough third round but still finished with a solid score of 227 – tying him for 33rd place. During the second round Thomas shot a 67 – tied for the best round in the field – and tied for the 13
th-best round in school history with teammates
Grayson Gilbert and
Ryan Fulton. Artigas finished with 11 birdies and made his first career eagle during Monday's second round.
In his season debut
Henry Augenstein finished 37th with a score of 229, while
Gabriel Gallego finished tied for 47th after a score of 233, and
Grayson Gilbert finished tied for 49th after shooting a 234 to round out the scoring for the Privateers.
Mason Roberts finished 57th after shooting a 238 as an independent in his Privateer debut.
The hosts Arkansas State took home the team championship with a score of 850, while Red Wolf Devyn Pappas took home the individual championship with a 12-under-par score of 204.
New Orleans is now 33-15 (.688) so far this season, including 5-0 against Southland schools. The golf team returns to action this Monday and Tuesday when they travel to the Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Ga. for the 2022 edition of the Pinetree Intercollegiate.
