Women's Tennis to Conclude Fall Slate in Lafayette

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team will be concluding their fall schedule with an in-state drive to Lafayette for the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational. The tournament starts on Friday and runs through the weekend.
 
THE FORMAT AND PARTICIPANTS
There will be five flights of singles draws and two flights of doubles in the tournament this weekend. Schools from Louisiana, Southern Miss, McNeese, Tulane and ULM will have representation in the tournament.
 
PREVIEW
The women's squad is coming off their performance against the toughest competition in the region with their stay at the ITA Regional. Didi Bredberg Canizares won her first round doubles match along with teammate, Raluca Puscas. In singles, she took Anna Parkhomenko of Alabama to three sets.
 
The women's team has also gotten an extended look at conference competition. Their first tournament was at Northwestern State and they had a dual against Nicholls at home. This weekend offers a look at McNeese.
 
A new look women's squad had four consolation bracket victories at Northwestern State in the opening weekend of the fall.
 
Anastassia Kouchnareva, Laurie Barendse and Ksenia Reznitskaya also won their singles flight consolation finals while Kouchnareva and Barendse earned a consolation finals win in their doubles flight.
 
Against Nicholls, the Privateer women went 5-1 in doubles matches and 6-6 in singles matches. Barendse and Bredberg both went 2-0 in singles on the day.
 
This weekend will mark the last tournament of the fall as the Privateers from here, will turn their attention to preparing for the spring dual season. The schedule for the remainder of the season will be released soon.
