NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers track and field team recorded six event wins and broke a meet record in the men's 60-meter during the Bulldog Invitational hosted by Samford at the Birmingham Crossplex on Friday.
DAY'S PROCEEDINGS
Parker McBride won his third 800-meter run in as many events when he clocked a 1:50.75. That marked an improvement of 1.5 seconds over his last win at the USA Jaguar Invitational. McBride also bested his previous record, which was a 1:51.35 at the Joe Walker Invitational when he was at Southeastern.
Alexandra Weir, who is the defending Southland Women's Track Athlete of the Week competed in the 3000-meter for the first time since Feb. 2020 and won the event with a time of 9:49.92. Weir assumed the lead with six laps to go and continued to extend on her advantage in the closing laps.
That time is also good for second currently in the Southland this season behind Jessica Rabius of HBU.
Julian Forde and
Ismael Kone took up two of the top three spots in the men's 60-meter dash. Kone clocked a 6.72 in the final for a third-place finish. Forde finished top of the chart with a 6.65.
The time for Forde was a Samford Invitational record and is currently good enough for the 22
nd best time nationally this indoor season.
Kone also crossed the line first in the 200-meter with a time of 21.33. The time was just two hundredths of a second off his winning run at South Alabama.
Jaden Forester also shaved over a second off his best collegiate time when he won the mile. Forester clocked a 4:13.21.
Cade Litolff finished third with a time of 4:15.26.
Vivette Green earned the win in the women's 60-meter after finishing with a time of 7.48. That time gets her within five hundredths of a second of the current top time in that event by a Southland Conference runner (Lynelle Washington-Northwestern State). Green also placed second in the 200-meter with a time of 24.54.
Samantha Dyson continues to build upon her best distances in the shot put. Dyson had a best mark of 13.40 meters. Her first two events have registered marks of 13.17 and 13.23 meters at Texas A&M and South Alabama respectively. Dyson also finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 17.51 meters.
