NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team (5-1) looks to continue their winning streak with two matches in South Carolina. The Privateers will face South Carolina State on Thursday and Charleston on Saturday. The matches are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 12 p.m. respectively.
The Privateers have won five consecutive matches after defeating ULM in a hard fought battle 4-3 last weekend at the University Tennis Center.
Mar Gendra continues her strong start to the season in singles. She scored a 7-5, 7-5 win that produced the match clinching point for the Privateers against the Warhawks. Gendra is out to a 5-0 start in singles on the season.
Lina Hohnhold is also on a five-match winning streak in singles. Hohnhold has not dropped a set in that span and has only lost more than two games in one set during the streak. In doubles, Hohnhold and
Marthe Degeorges are on a five-match winning streak at flight one.
Lea Alguacil made her return to the lineup and played in doubles with Gendra. Last season, Alguacil was First Team All-Southland in singles and Second Team in doubles.
This will be the first meeting between the Privateers and both opponents this week. South Carolina State is still searching for their first win of the season (0-4). Charleston won their season opener against South Carolina State but has dropped three straight matches since.
