Privateers Track and Field Sets New Marks at Southland Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's track and field teams put forth record point totals to finish out the Southland Indoor Championships on Monday at the Birmingham Crossplex.
 
The men finished fourth with a total of 97 points while the women placed fifth with a tally of 78 points. The men's point total far exceeds last year's best of 40 while the women also surpassed their point total record which was also 40 in 2021.
 
PODIUM FINISHES
The Privateers had nine more podium finishes on day two that ran their overall total to 13 for the two-day event.
 
Vivette Green scored a win and a second in the 200M and the 60M on Monday. Green clocked a 24.12 in the finals of the 200, which was a new indoor best. In the 60, Green crossed the line at a 7.52, only trailing Lynelle Washington of Northwestern State.
 
The Privateers swept the mile, winning individual titles on both the women's and men's side. Alexandra Weir got out to the front early and kept all others in the rearview mirror. Weir turned in the fastest split of the race at the end when she clocked a 33.51. Weir clocked a 4:54.05.
 
Later in the day, Weir went on to grab second in the women's 3000M with a time of 9:53.60.
 
In the men's mile, Jaden Forester closed strong to just beat Joey Croft of McNeese. Forester won the race by .05 seconds and ran a sub-28 second last split.
 
As expected, the Privateers racked up points between the men's 60M and 200M. Ismael Kone finished with silver in the 60 and 200. Julian Forde picked up a gold after winning the 60 with a time of 6.65.
 
Parker McBride continued his dominance of the 800M. McBride blasted away from the field in the last quarter of the race to take home gold in the event. He crossed the line nearly two seconds ahead of his closest competitor.
 
RECORD BREAKER
Kolyn Saltzman set the school record in the men's 3000M and finished fourth in the event. Saltzman made a mid-race move into the top five and remained there throughout the last six splits. Satlzman finished with a time of 8:20.87.

"I am very proud of this UNO Track and Field team. We fought hard these last two days and are continually progressing every year. I'm excited for when we get to the outdoor season."
 
NEXT UP
The first outdoor meet for the Privateers will take place on Mar. 11 when they head to Mobile for the South Alabama Invitational.
