NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team (6-2) enters their third week of competition when they make the short trip to White Sands for the Tulane Classic. The Privateers' first match is on Friday at 8:30 a.m.
Four matches are on the docket for the Privateers who had a perfect 4-0 weekend in Gulf Shores. Three pairs went perfect for the week in wins over Spring Hill, William Carey, Huntingdon and Tusculum.
Ania Esarte and
Lucie Pokorna are 7-1 on the year after their 4-0 performance in the Spring Hill Beach Bash.
Trinity Jackson and
Alexa Spartz are also 7-1 after winning all four of their matches at flight three.
Hailey Melerine and
Valerie Vujnovich moved to 4-1 after their unblemished weekend.
New Orleans will get another taste of Southland competition this weekend when they face two conference opponents. The Privateers will play Nicholls to open the tournament. It's the first meeting of the season between the two sides.
The Privateers will also get another crack at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Islanders defeated New Orleans 4-1 in the opening weekend of the season.
New Orleans will also face host, Tulane and Southern Miss for the first time this season during the tournament which spans two days.
Tulane is receiving votes nationally in the latest AVCA poll, which was released on Tuesday. The Green Wave are one of three schools outside the Top 20 that received votes in the latest poll.
